25 | On 07/24/2024 at 9:20am, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Selina Siao conducted an announced Pre-Licensing inspection for a new license. This facility is located at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School that is newly build. Upon arrival, LPA met with Facility Representatives Lucelyna Godwin, Miriam Martinez-Amaya and Leo Cruz. Applicant is requesting to be licensed for 75 school-age children ages UTK through 12 years old in rooms 301, 305, Innovation Center/aka library, Maker Space and Multipurpose Room. Hours of operation will be 6am to 6pm.
All indoor and outdoor activity space utilized for the children was inspected today. LPA informed facility representatives that staff are required to maintain direct visual supervision of the children at all times during indoor and outdoor activities. When medications are on site, facility representatives stated that they will be in the main room 301. A fully equipped first aid kit is in the main room 301. There is an operational carbon monoxide detector on site located in each of the rooms, in room 301 the carbon monoxide detector is near the sink area and for the other rooms it's near the fire extinguisher. All required licensing documents were observed posted on the wall outside the main room 301. Children will be signed in and out at the main room 301 that is near the office.
LPA continued to tour all the classrooms and this facility is exempt from square footage and toilet requirements, per Health & Safety Code sections 15896.806(a), (a)(1), (1)(2) and (d). LPA observed all indoor activity space to be complete with safe age-appropriate furniture and equipment, including tables, chairs, cubbies, bookshelves, and other activity supplies for the children. Drinking water is available in the classrooms via the children's own water bottle and the children can refill their water bottle via the drinking fountains, water station throughout the campus. Facility representatives stated that portable jug of water will be brought to the rooms that does not have a drinking fountain. LPA observed all hazardous items to be inaccessible to children. There are no bodies of water or weapons on the property. Fire clearance was granted on 07/19/2024. |
