25 | On October 9, 2024 at approximately 10:20am, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Catrina Quimbo conducted an unannounced, annual inspection to Glenridge Cooperative Nursery School. LPA met with director, Carolyn Mulcahy, and explained the purpose of the visit. Present during LPA's visit included 21 children, 5 parent volunteers, and 3 teaching staff (including director). Program is operating within capacity limits and ratio during LPA's visit.
Program operates as a cooperative nursery (co-op) school that operates in two sessions: morning (9:30am to 12:30pm) and afternoon (12:30pm to 3:30pm). Morning session children utilize the upper level, "AM class" while the the afternoon session children utilize the ground level, "PM class".
With director, LPA inspected facility for health and safety hazards. Facility is appropriately ventilated with proper temperature. LPA observed facility to have a variety of toys, equipment and furniture that are in good condition and age appropriate. Facility includes areas for art, dramatic play, gross motor development, and circle time. LPA advised director to sanitize materials weekly or as needed. LPA observed each classroom to have a loft area inside the facility that is designated as a library/quiet reading area for children. Stairs to loft area sustain the weight of an adult. LPA observed stairs to loft area also include non-slip material on each step.
LPA observed areas in classrooms to be clean and organized. There is carpet in the facility that is free of stains. Per director, carpets are vacuumed daily. Storage for children's belongings are located inside the facility, labeled with children's individual names. Each classroom is equipped with multiple first aid kits, fully charged fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. LPA tested carbon monoxide detectors in both classrooms during visit, which were observed to be working. There is a fireplace in the AM classroom. Per director, fireplace is not in working condition.
LPA observed poisons, chemicals and cleaning solutions to be stored in facility's high shelves, inaccessible to children. Due to program being a co-op, food service is provided by enrolled children's authorized representatives daily. Food services is prepared in kitchen and distributed to children. LPA observed kitchen to have allergies posted and available for review. LPA observed cleaning solutions to be stored separate from where food is prepared. LPA also observed knives to be stored in kitchen's high shelves. Reusable utensils are utilized for food service that are washed in facility's dishwasher. LPA observed two separate sinks in kitchen: one designated for art and one designated for food preparation.
