25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Mok conducted an unannounced case management inspection due to the licensee's request to add a backyard to the daycare areas. LPA met with the licensee and the licensee's husband and explained the purpose of the inspection to them. LPA observed five children including an infant present. The licensee stated that the total enrollment was 13 children. LPA inspected the backyard for health and safety hazards. The pathway to the backyard is from the deck next to the kitchen. The children must go through the kitchen to the deck and take the stairway to the backyard. The backyard was completely fenced. The licensee wanted to use the front part of the backyard that was close to the house for the daycare, and the back of the yard was the off-limit area. The licensee had fenced up the left side of the yard with a gate for two vaccinated dogs. The children did not have access to them. Gate and door were installed at the stairway. The licensee also had a gate in the back of the yard to prevent the children from accessing it.
The following items have to be completed before approval:
- The licensee needs to barricade the concrete area with the support posts and footings underneath a deck on the left side of the house. The ends of the barricade have to be mounted to the fence and wall to stabilize it.
- cover a support post and footing with soft cushioning underneath a deck on the right side of the house that next to the lemon tree.
- cover the edge of the lower bottom of the stairway with soft cushioning to prevent children from bumping into it.
- install the garden fence around the lemon tree area to separate the soil and concrete areas.
- install the safety alert tape at the edge of the concrete underneath a deck and soil by the lemon tree areas.
