25 | On November 1, 2023, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Garcia conducted an announced, case management inspection at The French American International School. LPA met with director, Katy Wang, and explained the purpose of the visit.
Hours of operation are from Monday to Friday 7:30am to 6:00pm. The French American International School received a fire inspection on October 5, 2023. CCLD has not received the fire clearance from the fire inspector as of the case management visit. LPA will contact the fire inspector and follow up on the status. The request for capacity increase was from 94 children to 162 children.
Present during LPA's visit included 90 preschool children with 20 staff. The facility was inspected, indoors and outdoors, for health and safety hazards and measured to calculate capacity.
Indoors: Preschool program has access to operate out of 4 rooms on French American International School campus that have been converted to preschool classrooms. All classrooms that will be used are currently for kindergarten children. The facility is planning to move the kindergarten children in a different campus and use the entire facility for preschool children by August 2024. Classroom 6 has a total square footage for 688.64 sq ft. allowing for a capacity of 19 children. Classroom 7 has a total square footage of 678.40 sq ft. allowing for a capacity of 19 children. Classroom 8 has a total square footage for 717.60 sq ft. allowing for a capacity of 20 children. Classroom 9 has a total square footage of 652.80 sq ft. allowing for a capacity of 18 children. The total allowable capacity equals 2,737.44 sq ft. allowing for a total capacity of 78 children. LPA observed each classroom is equipped with a fire extinguisher, fire sprinkler and smoke alarm system. First Aid kits are available in each classroom. LPA observed electrical outlets in classrooms are made inaccessible by child safety covers. The facility currently has kindergarten aged furniture. According to Katy, all the furniture will change to preschool aged appropriate materials by the next school year. Poisons, chemicals and other hazardous materials were stored inaccessible in classroom.
