The home provides sufficient heating, lighting, and ventilation. There is no fireplace located in the childcare areas. The facility is equipped with a combination carbon monoxide and smoke detector, in addition to a fully charged fire extinguisher that complies with the minimum standards of 2A 10 BC.
All cleaning products and disinfectants were observed to be stored inaccessible to children. The licensee stated that no guns or weapons are present in the home. No baby walkers, bouncers, or similar equipment were seen in the childcare areas. The licensee was reminded that smoking is not allowed in the family childcare home.
LPA observed two cribs in the nap room. One of the two cribs was observed with a loose bedsheet. However, since no infant was using it at the time of the inspection, LPA reviewed the infant safe sleep guidelines and reminded the licensee that all bedsheets must be snugly fitted to avoid dislodging, which could potentially pose a strangulation or suffocation hazard if they come off during an infant's nap.
The infant sleeping logs were provided to LPA for review during the inspection. Upon review, it was found that the licensee maintained complete logs, including the child's name, the 15-minute increment checks, and staff initials. The LPA also reminded the licensee to maintain a minimum of 30 days of logs for review during the annual inspection, and the records must be kept for 3 years.
Temporary absence was discussed, and the licensee's questions or inquiries were answered.
LPA reviewed the records for both children and personnel. The licensee keeps an accurate record of the child, including vaccination records, parental rights forms, and complete emergency information. The licensee and her assistant have maintained records of all essential licensing requirements, such as necessary immunizations, valid Pediatric First Aid CPR certifications, and mandated reporter training certificates.
