The home was equipped with a fire extinguisher, a first-aid kit, a smoke detector, and a carbon monoxide detector. The bathroom was clean and contained age-appropriate toileting equipment. A diaper changing station was observed with diapers and wipes. S1 stated that the parents provide diapers and wipes for their children. S1 confirmed that no firearms or weapons are stored on the premises.
The backyard was fully enclosed by a fence and free of debris or hazardous materials. Outdoor play equipment was available and in good working condition. Artificial grass and resilient padding were observed underneath the surface of the backyard. No pools, spas, or other bodies of water were observed on the premises
The facility provides food for the children, including breakfast, lunch, and a snack. Reusable plates, utensils, and cups are used and washed by hand.
The home was equipped with cots and cribs designated for children’s naps. All sleep equipment appeared to be in good condition. Infant mattresses were observed with tight-fitting sheets. S1 stated that the facility provides sheets, which are laundered weekly.
LPA reviewed five children’s files and found them complete, including all required licensing forms and immunization records. One child’s instant sleep log was requested but was not available for review, resulting in a technical violation. LPA reminded S1 that children under the age of two must have infant sleep logs completed.
The two licensees’ files were reviewed and found to include current certifications in Pediatric CPR/First Aid and Mandated Reporter Training. The licensee’s assistants'’ Mandated Reporter Training certificate was found to have expired, which will result in a technical violation.
Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.
LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-andresources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for and removing any recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.
