The home was equipped with a fire extinguisher, a first-aid kit, and three smoke detectors. The home was observed without a carbon monoxide detector. LPA observed the licensee purchasing the carbon monoxide detector online, and the order showed it would arrive on August 14, 2026. The facility will receive a technical violation note for not having a carbon monoxide detector in the home. The bathroom was clean and contained age-appropriate toileting equipment. The licensee confirmed that no firearms or weapons are stored on the premises.
The facility provides food for the children, including breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack. Reusable plates and utensils are provided by the facility and are washed in the dishwasher.
The home was equipped with cots for children’s naps. Blankets are provided by the parents and our returned weekly to parents for laundering. All sleep equipment appeared to be in good condition.
Five children’s files were reviewed, and all five were found to be complete, including all required licensing forms and immunization records. Random infant sleep logs from one child on different dates, including the date, time, and staff initials, were reviewed and found to be complete.
The licensee’s and the two assistants’ files were reviewed, and all three contained current Mandated Reporter Training certificates. All three files also contained current Pediatric CPR/First Aid certifications.
S1 was found to have no records of measles vaccination or immunity in her file. The facility will receive a technical violation note for not having S1’s measles records in her file.
Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.
LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-andresources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for and removing any recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.
