Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Mok conducted an unannounced case management inspection today. LPA met with the licensee, BaoWen Lu (Angela), and the licensee's mother who works as a helper. LPA explained the purpose of the inspection to her. There were 3 children napping upon LPA's arrival. The licensee applies for a large family childcare license on 3/4/2024. The licensee owns and lives in the 2-story single-family house with her 2 minor children. The facility is called Banana Boat Family Day Care". The facility's operation hours were Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 5:30 PM. The main entrance of the facility was located next to the garage door. The daycare areas are the entire in-law including a bedroom, a bathroom, a living area with a food preparation area, and a deck. The off-limit areas are the entire upper level, garage, and backyard. LPA inspected the facility for health and safety hazards. The facility was clean and in order, the temperature and lighting were adequate, and toxins and harmful objects were made inaccessible to the children. Childproof knobs were installed on the doors of the main entrance, garage, a storage room in the bathroom. The licensee also installed hooks to the doors of the storage in the living area and a bedroom. The licensee installed the soft cushioning to the daycare floor as the soft cushioning to prevent injury. A gate was installed at the stairway to the upper level, at the hallway entrance, and a deck to the backyard. The licensee installed the soft cushioning on the entire floor in the living area and the bedroom to prevent injury. All the electrical outlets were the updated TL version that has built-in blockage. The drawers in the food preparation area were latched. There were plenty of age-appropriate toys, books, and children's furniture available. The facility had a fully charged 2A10bc fire extinguisher, working carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, and first aid supplies available in the facility. The licensee also covers the faucets with soft cushioning at the deck. The children's bathroom had 2 toilets (one adult size and one child size) and 2 sinks (one adult size and one child size) available for children. LPA did not observe any harmful objects in the bathroom. The lower sink drawers were free of harmful objects. The outdoor deck was clean, but the gate has to be reinstalled at the stairway, so the deck is temporarily closed until the gate is reinstalled at the stairway.
The following items must be completed before licensure:
  • Fire clearance approval.
  • reinstall a gate at the stairway on the deck.
