25 | On July 6, 2023 at 9:00 AM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Cowan meets with director, Jennifer Knappick, for a 1 Year Required Inspection. Purpose of the inspection is explained. Present, in the facility is director, 4 staff, and 11 children in care. Facility is operating within its capacity, and facility is in compliance with staff / child ratio on this day. Facility operates day care Monday to Friday from 08:00 AM to 5:30 PM. When LPA arrived, children were eating breakfast.
With director, LPA inspects the day care room and play yard. LPA observes facility has installed smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector (not tested due to infants napping), fully charged fire extinguisher, and working telephone on site. All cleaning solutions, poisons and other chemicals dangerous to the children are stored inaccessible to the children. Facility has age-appropriate furniture. Facility floor is in good repair and free of any hazards.
There are first aid supplies available in the classroom. The bathroom is in working condition. All storage containers for solid waste have fitted lids. Facility has a sufficient amount of sleeping matts available. Food preparation area is free of litter. Food is stored adequately to prevent contamination. Play yard is free of hazards. The facility uses artificial turf to help absorb the impact of falls. There is water available on the yard as well as in the classroom.
LPA observed that facility is using electronic sign in / out. LPA observed 11 children checked in. Facility has license and all other required documents posted and visible for the public. Facility’s last emergency drill is conducted 5/19/23 and is properly logged. At 9:57 AM, LPA reviews the facility records. LPA reviews 5 random children's files. Children’s files are complete with all required Licensing documents. LPA reviews 4 staff's files. At 10:17 AM, LPA observes that staff member does not have TB clearance of file. This is a potential risk to children in care. A Type B citation is issued for this deficiency. Per director, all contact information of file is current.
LPA discusses facility cleaning and files with cite director. LPA discussed Safe Sleep Regulations as well including not using sleep sacs for napping.
