25 | On 12/10/24, Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Elvin Baddley and Shane Loftus contacted an unannounced Case Management inspection of the abovementioned Child Care Center (CCC), to assess the use of mats for infants three months of age and older. LPAs met with Sarah Davis, Director of the CCC and explained the nature and purpose of the inspection. LPAs toured the interior and exterior of the CCC and note eight children are on site, along with three teachers (cleared and associated) providing care and supervision.
The CCC currently uses cribs for children 0 years of age until their mobility allows the children to "pull up" in the crib. Children with the noted mobility are placed on mats to nap/sleep. The CCC is requesting permission for children three months of age and older to use a mat. The CCC will continue to provide cribs for children under three months.
LPAs and Director discussed the spacing and placement of the mats for children three months of age with limited mobility. Director informed LPAs the CCC has two designated sleeping areas which are physically separated from indoor activity space. Further, the CCC has the ability to make a third area if needed.
Within the designated sleep areas, the Director informed LPAs mats will be placed three feet apart to allow staff to comfortably pass between the napping/sleeping child. Additionally, the orientation of the mats will be opposite (i.e. head to toe, toe to head) from side to side. The designated areas have ample spacing to accommodate four mats. Director informed LPAs CCC will continue to adhere to Safe Sleep regulations.
The Director repositioned furnishings in order for LPAs to observed the designated sleep areas with nap/sleep mats in place. As such LPAs were able to see the appropriateness of mats in the space provided.
Use of nap/sleep mats pending administrative approval. Exit interview and report reviewed with Facility Representative Sarah Davis. |
