25 | On 10/6/22, at 8:45 AM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Elvin Baddley conducted an unannounced Case Management - Annual Continuation Inspection of the abovementioned Family Child Care Home (FCCH). LPA met with Maria Topete, Licensee of the FCCH and explained the purpose of the inspection. LPA, in the company of Licensee toured the interior and exterior of the FCCH. The FCCH’s living room, family room, backyard and first floor restroom are used for child care services. The upper story of the FCCH is excluded from child care and barricaded by a child safety gate at the base of the stairwell. At the time of the inspection, LPA observed six children in care, two of which are biologically related. LPA notes the FCCH was placed an increased inspection schedule on 11/5/20, for a period of two years as part of a Compliance Plan. As such, the increased inspection schedule is set to conclude on 11/5/22, barring transgressions.
The FCCH was observed to be clean and orderly. The FCCH has ventilation to afford for the children’s comfort. Medication in the FCCH is stored in a cabinet in the kitchen as well as an upper stairs bathroom. Each area where the medication is stored is inaccessible to children in care. Cleaning compounds are stored in a cabinet underneath the kitchen sink. The kitchen area is excluded from care and is barricaded by a child safety gate. Toys, furniture and equipment in the FCCH are age appropriate.
Required forms are predominantly posted on the wall near the entry of the FCCH. The FCCH’s playroom has a fireplace. The Fireplace which is barricaded by a child safety gate which is inaccessible to children. The FCCH's restroom used for child care is observed to be clean and free of toxins. LPA observed combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors throughout the FCCH. The combination detector in the FCCH's playroom was tested at 9:15 AM and found to be operable. LPA observed a regulation fire extinguisher on site which was service on 5/4/22. LPA reminded the Licensee to either service or purchase a regulation fire extinguisher annually. The FCCH maintains working telephone services.
