25 | On May 31, 2024, at approx. 9:00 AM Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Maria Olguin-Leon conducted an unannounced annual inspection at Open Gate Nursery Preschool. LPA met with Director Kristi Calcagno and purpose of inspection was explained. Present today, Director, 2 staff and 2 parent volunteers. Facility is operating within capacity and in compliance with staff/child ratio. All staff have fingerprint clearances. Facility operates part-time co-op preschool programs from Monday to Friday 9:00 AM to 3:15 PM. Preschool hours vary depending on day.
LPA and Director toured the facility for health and safety hazards. Facility operates a co-op preschool program on the site of Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Church. Classrooms consist of the game room, art room and block room. Facility is clean with proper temperature and ventilation. There are plenty of age-appropriate toys,furniture, learning materials and games all in good repair. Storage hooks are in hallway, which are available for children to store personal items and belongings. There are two bathrooms and two sinks located in the block room. Toilets are in working condition and there is no hot running water in sinks. There is a separate staff bathroom located in facility. Trash cans have tight fitting lids. All cleaning products, chemicals and toxins are stored and locked in cabinet and inaccessible to children. Playground is equipped with a two climbing/slide age-appropriate play structures, a tire swing, playhouse, and a sandbox with a lid, all in good condition. Playground is surrounded with a 5 ft. fence. Play structure flooring is cushioned with tanbark to cushion falls. Outdoor play area is equipped with cement and some areas have artificial grass mats. There are no spas or pools, LPA observed children’s water table which was equipped with a lid and properly supervised Per Director, there are no weapons or firearms on the premises.
Children bring their own lunches and snacks form home. LPA observed labeled water bottles with children’s names. Per Director, water bottles are refilled from a water filter pitcher. First aid kit is fully stocked with medical supplies. Incidental Medical Services were discussed. Sick children are isolated in nursery room and away from other children.
