LPA inspected the indoors and outdoors of facility for health and safety hazards. Preschool program operates on the campus of Roosevelt Elementary School in three classrooms; #34, #35 and #36. LPA observed classrooms to be clean and safe. Classrooms have proper lighting, temperature and ventilation to provide safety and comfort. LPA observed cabinets to be equipped with child safety latches. Furniture has rounded corners and is maintained in good condition. LPA observed plenty of age-appropriate toys, child size furniture, learning materials, blocks, art supplies, and dramatic play areas. Storage cubbies are available for children to store their personal belongings. LPA observed flooring in all classrooms to be clean and equipped with rugs. Per Site Supervisor, rugs are vacuumed daily and deep cleaned 3 times a year or as needed. .
Each classroom is equipped with restrooms. Restrooms were clean and cabinets secured with childproof latches. LPA observed all toilets and sinks to be in working condition. Stepping stools were available for children’s use. Classroom #34 was observed to have a changing table within an arm’s reach of a sink. LPA observed children’s diapering supplies. Staff restrooms are available for staff use only. All trash containers in restroom and in classroom have tight fitted lids. All cleaning products, chemicals and toxins are stored behind child proof cabinets for inaccessibility to children.
Outdoor play areas are enclosed with a 5 ft fence. Outdoor area by classrooms is equipped with age-appropriate toys that include a cart with outdoor toys, basketball hoop, soccer net and other toys in good condition. LPA also observed benches and canopies to provide shade to children in care. Secondary outdoor space is located in lower portion of school and is equipped with a swing set and play structure. Flooring in outdoor space was asphalt and dirt. Secondary playground has tanbark to absorb and cushion falls. LPA did not observe any pools, spas, or other bodies of water.
Facility provides breakfast, lunch and snacks daily to enrolled children, which are provided by the Redwood City School District and delivered daily. Lunch and snack schedules are properly posted for review. Kitchenette areas in classrooms were observed to be clean, and food was properly stored to prevent contamination. Kitchenettes are equipped with refrigerators, sink, stove and microwave and/or toaster ovens. Children bring their own water bottles from home and are labeled with children’s names. Children's water bottles are refilled from filtered water.
