25 | On March 20, 2025, at approximately 8:15 AM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Zeynep Basak conducted an unannounced annual inspection and met with the director, Hana A. Shehadeh, and the owner Abeer ElAfifi. The purpose of the visit was explained, and LPA was granted access to the facility. The facility operates Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
The owner stated that the facility has a total enrollment of forty children, who attend on a rotating schedule, meaning not all children are present at the same time.
Upon entry, LPA observed 6 staff members, including the director, and 21 children (2 to 5 years old) present. The facility operated within its capacity and complied with the staff-to-child ratio on this day. LPA verified the staff members’ background clearance on the Guardian website.
LPA inspected two classrooms, a children's bathroom, and an outdoor play area with the director. LPA observed that the temperature and ventilation levels were appropriately maintained. The facility is equipped with two combo carbon monoxide detectors, smoke alarms, and two fully charged fire extinguishers (model 2A:10BC) in the classrooms. The director stated that the facility conducts an emergency drill three times a year, with the most recent drill conducted on October 31, 2024.
LPA observed that the facility has age-appropriate furniture, toys, and educational materials in each classroom. The facility floors and rugs are in good condition and free of any hazards. Sleeping cots were observed in the storage area, and per the director, sheets were provided by the facility, and blankets were brought from home.
LPA observed the changing table in the classroom and proper cleaning/disinfecting procedures were maintained. LPA confirmed that all cleaning solutions and other chemicals are properly stored and made inaccessible to children.
