25 | On March 5, 2025, at approximately 12:45pm, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Maria Olguin-Leon, conducted an unannounced case management inspection at Building Kidz of Redwood City. Facility submitted an application on October 4, 2024, for an increase of capacity for the infant program. LPA met with Director, Nayren Aquino, and explained the purpose of the inspection. Present during visit included Director, 10 enrolled infants with 4 staff.
Program is a licensed combination program for infants and preschool, with toddler a component. The program is adding room #2 to their infant program and decreasing classroom from preschool/toddler capacity. Program is requesting to increase capacity from 16 infants to 34 infants. Facility plans to use classroom #2 for infants ages 12 to 24 months old and use classroom #3 for infants 0 to 11 months. Director was reminded that preschool/toddler children cannot commingle with the infant program.
Classroom #2, previously a toddler classroom, was measured today for the infant classroom. Classroom #2 was measured for 750.36 sq ft. The total allowable capacity measured for Classroom #2 measures for 750.36 sq ft. equaling 21 infants. Classroom #3 will remain an infant classroom for infants ages 0 mth to 11 mths. Fire inspection clearance was received on February 25, 2025, from Redwood City Fire Department.
The infant outdoor area was previously measured at 1038 square feet allowing for 13 infants. Per Director, outdoor space will be shared with toddler classroom. LPA reminded Director to request an outdoor space waiver since there is not adequate outdoor square footage for 34 infants and 18 toddlers. LPA also reminded Director that infants and toddlers can not commingle. Director will also provide a rotation schedule for both infant classrooms and toddler classroom. Director will ensure all infants are provided with outdoor time each day. Infants’ outdoor area was equipped with ride on toys, playhouse, and crawl through tunnel. Outdoor flooring is artificial grass to cushion falls and is equipped with sunshade sails to provide shade to children in care. The entire infant/toddler playground is surrounded 3 ft white picket fence and back side has a 5 ft. wrought iron fence with black privacy mesh.
