On January 7, 2025, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Giovani Gonzalez conducted an unannounced Required - 3 Year inspection at the above-mentioned Family Child Care Home (FCCH). LPA met with Itxel Vazquez-Alvarado and informed them the purpose of the inspection. At the time of the inspection 2 children and 1 assistant were present. LPA notes 1 additional child arrived during the inspection.

LPA in the company of the licensee toured the interior and exterior of the FCCH. LPA observed the living room to have sufficient space and ventilation for children in care. LPA observed the FCCH to have age appropriate toys and equipment for children in care. LPA observed a fire place that is covered and secured. LPA observed the doors to the bedrooms to be secured and inaccessible to children in care. LPA observed the cabinets in the living room to be free of hazards. LPA observed the kitchen and dining area to be accessible to children. LPA observed 1 kitchen drawer to contain hazardous materials and informed licensee the drawer must be secured if the area is going to be accessible to children. Further LPA observed a cabinet in the dining area to also contain hazardous materials as well. 1 Type B deficiency is being issued as a result. LPA observed knives and medication to be stored on elevated surfaces beyond the reach of children in care. Further LPA observed cleaning compounds to be stored in elevated cabinets in the kitchen and dining area as well. LPA observed the bathroom used by children to be clean and free of hazards.

LPA observed the backyard to be completely enclosed. Licensee informed LPA they are currently not using the backyard due to a tree falling and needing to do maintenance. LPA reminded licensee prior to children beginning to use the yard again, it must be free of hazards.

LPA observed required documents to be posted on the wall near the entrance of the FCCH. A smoke and carbon monoxide detector was tested at 10:21 AM and found in working order. LPA observed the FCCH to have a regulation fire extinguisher which was serviced 7/15/2024. LPA reminded licensee to either service or purchase a regulation fire extinguisher annually. Licensee stated there are no fire arms in the FCCH.

LPA reviewed children's records which were found to be current and complete. LPA reminded Licensee that it is their responsibility to ensure that children's records are complete. LPA reviewed assistant's records to be complete as well. LPA observed licensee's and assistant's Mandated Reporter Training to be current (Licensee completed 8/16/2023). Further, licensee's CPR/First Aid was completed on 10/24/2023. LPA reminded licensee that it is their responsibility to ensure all training and certifications are current. The last emergency drill was conducted on 10/18/2024.

Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.

LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.

Licensee was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain child care by connecting them to child care providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California.

During the exit interview, the licensee Itxel Vazquez-Alvarado , confirmed that there are no Registered Sex Offenders living in the facility and LPA completed the RSO profile in FAS.

1 Type deficiency was issued during today's inspection. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days.
