25 | On 12/11/24 at 12:20 PM, Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Shane Loftus and Elvin Baddley made an unannounced Annual/Random Inspection of the Family Child Care Home (FCCH). The inspection will also address the Licensee’s request for change of capacity from a small FCCH license to a large FCCH license. LPAs met with Licensee, Janie Mendoza, and explained the purpose of the inspection. LPAs, in the company of Licensee, toured the interior and exterior of the home. The FCCH's family room, living room, kitchen, hallway bathroom, and backyard are used for child care. The remainder of the house is off limits to children secured by a child safety gate. LPAs observed two adults (cleared and associated) and three children on site during the inspection.
The FCCH was observed to be clean and orderly. The FCCH has ventilation for the children in care. LPAs observed licensing forms and documents posted on a wall near the front door of the FCCH. LPAs observed a fireplace in the family room which has glass screening and a child safety gate in front of it, making it inaccessible to children. The bathroom used for child care is observed to be clean and free of toxins. Sharps are located in an elevated cabinet in the kitchen which is secure and inaccessible to children. Detergents and cleaning compounds are stored in the children’s bathroom in a secured elevated cabinet, inaccessible to children in care. Medications are stored in an elevated kitchen cabinet, which is inaccessible to the children in care. LPAs observed a dual carbon monoxide/smoke detector in the FCCH which was tested 12:45 PM and found to be operational. LPAs observed a regulation fire extinguisher in the FCCH which was last serviced on 9/30/24. LPAs reminded the Licensee to service or purchase a regulation fire extinguisher annually.
The FCCH’s backyard is enclosed by cinder blocks and has varied footing surfaces. The entry/exit gates are secured. The backyard is partitioned with a child safety gate to separate the children’s activity area from the excluded area. LPAs note the toys and equipment in the backyard are age appropriate. Additionally, no bodies of water are observed on site.
