Staff also stated that when additional support is needed, the center contacts the Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation team, who observe the child and provide recommendations to staff and families. The center may also assign a behavior para-educator to provide one-on-one support if needed. Staff receive ongoing training on children’s personal rights, safety practices, and managing challenging behaviors. Parents are notified the same day when an incident occurs, and staff complete incident or injury reports.
The center has policies regarding children’s personal rights. The center prohibits restraining, corporal punishment, physical contact used as discipline, and the inappropriate use of the word “no.” Staff redirect children, explain situations, and set clear expectations. Staff also use visual tools such as emotion charts to help children identify and talk about their feelings.
Based on parent interviews, parent denied observing or having knowledge of any staff handling children in care in a rough manner and Staff yelling at children in care.
Based on the interviews conducted and records review, at this time, there is not enough evidence to support the above allegations mentioned on the page one (1). This agency has investigated the complaint, alleging that Staff handled children in care in a rough manner, and Staff yelled at children in care. Although the allegations may have happened or are valid, there is not a preponderance of evidence to prove the alleged violation(s) did or did not occur, therefore the allegations are UNSUBSTANTIATED.
No deficiencies were cited during today’s investigation. Appeal rights were provided.
An exit interview was conducted, and the report was reviewed with Director, Lurvin Magana-Calles, and Associate Program Director (APD), Maria Velazquez.
A Notice of Site Visit was issued and must remain posted for 30 days.
