25 | On 3/1/2023: Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Pietro Hernandez conducted an unannounced Required 1 Year inspection of San Jose State University C.D. and P.S. Labs. The preschool is located on the premises of San Jose State University. The program has two rooms located in two separate buildings: Room 117 in Sweeny Hall and CCB 118. LPA met with Director, Joy Foster, and explained the purpose of today's visit. Facility’s License, Emergency Disaster Plan, menus, Parents’ Rights Poster PUB393, Personal Rights, and Activity Schedules, were observed to be posted. Facility's operating days and hours are Monday to Friday 9:00 to 11:30AM and 12:30 to 3:00 PM. There is an active waiver on file for: to allow the Lab Class up to 24 children with One Teacher and 7 to 9 adult students instead of a 1:12 Teacher child ratio.
The physical plant was inspected. LPA toured the building with the Director.
Indoor space: The classrooms, restrooms and office area were inspected. LPA observed 23 children with 2 staff including Director Joy Foster and Lead Teacher Jessica Fraser and 6 adult assistant students. The Director was present during inspection. Facility was in compliance with teacher to children ratio requirement. Children were engaged in various activities under the visual supervision of the teachers and assistants. LPA did not observe disinfectants, cleaning solutions or chemicals that are dangerous to the health and safety of children. All other cabinets, drawers, and rooms used for storage were locked. Furniture and equipment were age appropriate and in good condition, free of sharp, loose, or pointed parts. Restrooms for children were observed to be in safe, sanitary, and functioning condition. Floors were clean and free from tripping hazards. Foods and beverages were stored safely. Food storage area were clean, free of litter, rubbish, and rodents/vermin. Trash cans for solid waste have tight-fitting covers on in room CCB 118. Director stated that facility does not possess nor store any weapons on the premises. LPA observed a 3A40BC Fire extinguisher, working Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors, fire pull stations, and sprinkler system. Log shows that the last Fire Drill was conducted on 2/15/2023. Facility does not provide transportation for children, but Director understands that children cannot be left alone, unattended in parked vehicles. |
