25 | Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Harsimran Kaur and Janette Cruz conducted an unannounced Case Management site visit in response to facility's notification of a change in facility's physical plant. LPAs met with Melissa Leza (Program Director) and Laura Behl (Regional Director) and explained to them the purpose of the inspection. SJB Cassell CDC is currently a licensed School Age Program operating on a functioning elementary school site, Sylvia Cassell Elementary. The School Age Program is licensed to operate in Portable Classrooms, School Age 1. However, facility had informed Licensing Office that beginning this school year, facility will be adding classrooms C4 (School age 2) and C5 (School Age 3).
A fire clearance has been granted for classrooms C4 and C5 on 7/20/2023. Facility had submitted a letter from the Elementary School Assistant Superintendent stating that maximum capacity approved for the classrooms is 34 children.
LPAs inspected C4 and C5 classrooms. LPAs observed that items that may pose a danger to children were stored inaccessible to children. There were furniture, such as tables and chairs available for children. Since this School Age Program operates on a functioning school site, pursuant to Health and Safety Code Section 1596.806 the Program is exempt from requirements for square-footage of indoor and outdoor activity space, toilet, fencing, and isolation space for child day care centers, pursuant to Health and Safety Code Section 1596.806.
Based on today's inspection, LPAs determined that the facility's physical plant is in compliance with applicable Health & Safety Codes and Title 22 Regulations. A School Age License shall be issued for SJB Cassell Child Development Center to operate in C4 and C5 classrooms upon submission of the following:
1. Letter from school district indicating capacity for each classrooms C4 and C5. Letter must be submitted with school district letterhead.
Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with Melissa Leza, Program Director and Laura Behl Regional Director .
A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. |
