Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Janette Cruz conducted an unannounced case management inspection following a request to reduce the facility's capacity from 84 to 63 preschool children ages 2 years to entry to kindergarten in rooms # 1, 2 and 11. LPA met with Rochelle Legett, facility representative, and explained to her purpose of today’s inspection. The Preschool Program currently serves children ages 2 years - entry to kindergarten in preschool rooms 1, 2, 10 and 11 operating in a functioning elementary/middle school, San Jose Christian School. The facility also operates a licensed infant program (Facility # 434413583) on the same premises. The facility received a fire safety inspection approval from the San Jose Fire Department on 02/18/25. The child care center will operate Monday–Friday 8:00AM – 5:30 PM. LPA toured and measured the indoor and outdoor areas of the facility during today's inspection. Facility currently has approved waivers for shared preschool playground schedules with the elementary school and waiver for chapel assembly.

Preschool Classroom measurements are:
The Indoor total measurements contain a total of {2275.69} square feet, which will accommodate Applicant's request for 63 preschool children.

Preschool Outdoor Play measurements are:
Outdoor total measurements contain a total of {6754.20} square feet, which will accommodate Applicant’s request for 63 preschool children.

LPA observed classrooms are clean, safe, sanitary and in good repair. All outdoor and indoor passage ways and other areas of potential hazard were free of obstruction. A comfortable temperature for children shall be maintained at all times. Furniture and equipment were observed to be maintained in good condition, free of sharp, loose or pointed parts. All play equipment and materials used by children were observed to be age-appropriate. There are 61 chairs, 14 tables, 78 cubbies, 36 mats, 7 toilets, and 8 sinks available for preschool children. There is a separate staff toilet not utilized by the children which an isolated child can use if needed.

LPA observed that the teacher/child ratio was in compliance during today's visit. Lunch and snacks will be provided by parents. LPA observed fridge, a microwave oven for food storage and heating inside classrooms. Drinking water is available in the classrooms through commercial water dispensers. Facility representative was reminded that containers for the disposal of solid wastes must have with tight-fitting lids. LPA advised facility representative that per regulations, all children shall be given an opportunity to nap or rest without distraction or disturbance from other activities at the center. A napping space and a cot or mat shall be available for each child under the age of five.

LPA observed that the preschool playgrounds are surrounded by appropriate fencing. The preschool playgrounds have climbing structures with sufficient resilient materials (tanbark). There is adequate age-appropriate supplies and toys outdoors. LPA observed no bodies of water. Playground climbing equipment has age range sticker appropriate for children ages 5-12 years. Facility representative was reminded that per regulations all play equipment and materials used by children shall be age-appropriate. Based on today's inspection, LPA determined that the facility's physical plant is in compliance with applicable Health & Safety Codes and Title 22 Regulations.

LPA conducted an exit interview and advised Facility Representative that request for decrease in capacity from 84 - 63 preschool children will be approved upon upon review by the Licensing Program Manager. No deficiencies issued during today's inspection.

A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days.
