25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Ofelia Calivo met with Justina Gonzalez, Head Teacher, for an unannounced Required 1-year inspection.
The Preschool program has two 3 hours session from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Center will provide breakfast for the morning session and lunch is provided for the afternoon session. Individual container prepared at the school's cafeteria. No food preparation done at the center. Facility has trash can with tight fitting lid and in good condition. There are adequate tables, chairs, equipment, supplies and toys for children. Drinking water will be provided indoor and outdoor and children also bring their own bottled water from home. The program is operated by the San Jose Unified School District and all criminal background checks for staff are handled by the Department of Education and thus do not come under the jurisdiction of Community Care Licensing Division.
LPA toured the facility both indoor and outdoor areas during today's inspection. There are 1 toilet (15) and 2 sinks (30) available for the children inside the classroom. Additional 2 toilets are in the elementary school. A waiver to share the elementary school's bathroom is on file. Cold water is available in the children's faucet. Staff have their own bathroom which is located in the school cafeteria. The sick child will be isolated in the Site Supervisor's office and isolation equipment is provided. The sick child will utilize the staff bathroom. LPA observed a working carbon monoxide detector and a smoke detector, and no fireplaces or wall heaters at the facility. The room has appropriate lighting, cooling and heating system. Medications are stored in lock boxes in the high shelves, inaccessible to children. First aid and cleaning supplies are stored in the high shelves.
There are no climbing structures in the children's playground. Justina stated that trikes, hoops, balls, balance beams, building blocks are already in the warehouse and will be provided to the children to play. Shade is provided by trees and building overhangs. LPA observed no bodies of water. Per Justina, no firearms in the premises. No transportation will be provided by the school.
LPA observed the required posted materials, including the Facility License, Emergency Disaster Plan (LIC 610), Earthquake Preparedness Checklist (LIC 9148), Parents' Rights Poster (PUB 393), Personal Rights (LIC 613A), Child Car Seat Law (PUB 269), Menus, and Activity Schedule. |
