Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Mel Matos met with Sonalika (Clark) Kirkpatrick, director, for an announced case management inspection. Purpose of today's case management inspection: The Facility is requesting to add a Toddler Option (12 children) to the existing license and converting the Toddler 2 classroom for the Toddler Option component. The capacity remains unchanged at 36 children. Hours of operation: 6:30 AM to 6:30 AM. LPA toured and measured the indoor and outdoor areas of the Facility with Sonalika during today's inspection.

The Facility is currently licensed in the following rooms: Rooms: Infant 1, Infant 2, Toddler 1, and Toddler 2. Measurements for Rooms: Infant 1, Infant 2, Toddler 1, and Toddler 2 are as follows:

INDOOR MEASUREMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Infant 1: 24.250 x 12.167 = 295.050

Infant 2: (8.750 x 12.750) + (16.250 x 19.500) = 111.562 + 316.875 = 428.437

Toddler 1: 23.500 x 20 = 470.000

Toddler 2 (Toddler Option): 22.583 x 20.583 = 464.826

TOTAL INDOOR SPACE: 1,658.313 sq. ft. divided by 35 = 47 infant children

Sonalika (Clark) Kirkpatrick, director, was reminded that all adults 18 and over responsible for administration or direct supervision of staff, persons who provides care and supervision to children, and staff who have contact with children, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.

There are 3 toilets (45), 3 sinks (45) in the Facility. There are adequate chairs, tables, cubbies, equipment, supplies, and toys for the children within the Facility. Sonalika understands that walkers and items of similar nature are not permitted. LPA observed appropriate changing tables that have raised sides (3 inches in height) and are within an arm's reach of a sink in each room. There is a separate sleeping (crib) area in the Infant 1 & 2 rooms (separate from the indoor activity space). Sonalika understands that the children must be under direct visual supervision at all times, including nap times, in the separate sleeping (crib) areas and in the Toddler 1 & 2 rooms.

OUTDOOR MEASUREMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Yard E = 26..083 x 25.167 = 656.430

Yard F = 94 x 30.917 = 2,906.198

TOTAL OUTDOOR SPACE: 3,562.628 sq. ft. divided by 75 = 47 children.

LPA observed that both playgrounds are surrounded by appropriate fencing. The Toddler 2 (toddler option) and Infant 1, Infant 2, and Toddler 1 rooms will use the playgrounds at different intervals and usage schedules are posted throughout the Facility. The playground equipment is age appropriate and artificial grass/rubbing padding is used as resilient materials. Shade is provided by canopies and building overhangs throughout the playground areas. There are adequate equipment, supplies, and toys for children outdoors. LPA did not observe any bodies of water during today's inspection.

LPA received a fire clearance approval from the San Jose Fire Department prior to today's inspection.

Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with Sonalika (Clark) Kirkpatrick, director, and advised her that the infant license with the toddler option (24 infants & 12 toddler option children) is approved as of today, August 17, 2022. No deficiencies issued during today's inspection.

Notice of site visit issued and must remain posted for 30 days.
