25 | Due to COVID-19 pandemic, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Yatfai Eric Ng partnered with Health Facilities Evaluator Nurse (HFEN) Helen Widegren from the California Department of Public Health, conducted a tele-Case Management - Other via FaceTime, to provide a technical assistance to prevent and mitigate the spread of COVID-19 at the facility. LPA and HFEN met with the Executive Director (ED) Tayebeh Bagheri.
The virtual tour started at the entrance of the facility. That was the only entry and exit point for everyone. LPA observed a hand sanitizer station. A live person with a thermometer at the front desk to screen visitors and staff. LPA observe staff in the facility wore masks at all time. A restroom was toured that had soap, paper towels, and trash bin with lid readily available. Hand washing signs were observed inside. Residents had meals in their own rooms. Dining room was converted for staff to take break. Chairs were set up at least 6 feet from each other to practice social distancing. ED stated all dishes were washed by the dish washer machine with hot water. Residents' clothes were washed with hot water separately. Managers received N95 masks fit tests certification to train staff. Currently there was no resident being isolated. LPA and HFEN discussed with ED what procedures to follow in isolating COVID-19 resident in his or her own room.
Following infection control practices were suggested to prevent and mitigate the spread of COVID-19:
- Put signs at the entrance to remind all visitors to wear masks before entering
- Post Provider Information Notice PIN 20-38-ASC to explain visitation limitation
- Male staff should shave daily before putting on any N95 mask
- Post more signs in the common areas and in the break room to promote social distancing
- Surgical mask is not recommended to be worn over the N95 mask, however, 2 surgical masks may be worn for added protection due to the mutating viruses
No deficiency cited during visit. This report was emailed to the ED to review and to obtain signature. Additional resource about COVID-19 was also sent to ED for reference. |
