13 | On 2/29/24, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Grace Donato conducted an unannounced visit to deliver findings for the above allegation. LPA met with Program Director Dennis Miclat. LPA explained the purpose of the visit.
Regarding the allegation of staff are mishandling the clients while in care, the Reporting Party (RP) stated that the employees at the facility were abusing their non-verbal clients.
LPA Heberle conducted interviews with staff members and four out of four mentioned that they haven’t seen clients being mishandled in the facility. A staff member, S1, stated that they use verbal redirection when clients are exhibiting behaviors. Another, S2, also stated that they have never known the facility to use physical redirection with any clients and do not have any recollection of any instances where clients complained about clients or staff laying hands on them. LPA also interviewed three clients. C1 mentioned that they have never seen staff get physical with clients. Staff mostly just tell clients to calm down when they are engaging in behaviors. Another client, C2, stated that some of the clients get angry and scream and pound stuff, so staff tells them to calm down or puts them in a separate room. They also feel safe in the facility.
