25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Cortney Nelson, met with Site Coordinator, Claudia "Gaby" Solano, to provide technical assistance for upcoming relocation of infant component while the building is under construction. LPA toured indoors and outdoors the facility and observed all classrooms at the site. The facility works with Migrant and Seasonal Head Start and offers care to children from May-October.
The site has three buildings: preschool building (#203), toddler building (#201), and infant building (#205). Due unsafe building conditions, the infant building will not be in use for the upcoming season and construction/demolition will commence in October 2023. No construction will occur while children are present.
The facility would like to relocate the infants to the toddler building and share the toddler outdoor space on a staggered schedule (Toddlers: 9:15-10:00AM & Infants: 10:10-10:50AM). Gaby states that infants would be brought to the toddler yard via strollers and additional cushioning materials will be placed outside for the infants to use for crawling. LPA observed that the toddler yard has an age-appropriate playground, covered sandbox, track for bikes, and grassy areas where mats can be placed for crawling. The outdoor space is fenced in and has two functioning sinks.
The indoor space is separated by gates to keep the toddlers physically separated from the infants. The infant side of the building is further divided into two sections for walkers and non-walkers/crawlers. Within each section, there is a diaper changing table, within arms reach of a sink, for a total of two diaper changing tables on the infant side of the building. There is a separate nap area equipped with three (3) cribs and there are ten (10) cots additionally available. Gaby states that she plans to have bottle warmers plugged into outlets for infants that need formula/breast milk and that all other food is provided by the school district and brought to the building for the infants. There are a total of three (3) toilets and seven (7) sinks available in the building (#201). A staff restroom is available if a child needed to be isolated. |
