Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Elizabeth Berumen conducted an announced tele-inspection via facetime (831) 707-9470. LPA met with Licensee, Maria Sanchez; Maria added a room to her family child care home. Maria obtained permits from the city of Watsonville and obtained a fire inspection approval on April 26, 2021.
Present during the inspection was her assistant/daughter, Olga Leticia Sanchez and 4 day care children. Licensee's operating hours are Monday - Friday from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Maria states there are three adults living in the home; herself, her son and her daughter. A review of staff records on May 5, 2021 indicates that all facility staff or other individuals who require caregiver background checks have received criminal record and child abuse index clearances or exemptions.

Maria agreed to show Maria the addition and areas used for day care today via facetime. LPA observed sufficient materials, toys, and play equipment for the day care children. The home is clean, safe and orderly for children. LPA observed three barricaded wall heaters, one in the living room, one in the hallway near the bathroom and one in (new) room addition. Off limit areas in the home are 2 bedrooms, hall closets and detached garage. All detergents, cleaning compounds, medicines, and other items which could pose a danger if readily available to children are inaccessible to children. Maria understands that storage areas for poisons, firearms and other dangerous weapons shall be locked. The backyard is fenced. The storage shed in that backyard is off limits.

The home is equipped with a 2A10BC fire extinguisher. No bodies of water were observed. Maria states there are no weapons in the home. There is a fish tank in living room/day care area the lid on the tank is closed.

Maria Sanchez has certification for CPR & First Aid, expiring on 04/01/2022.
Maria completed the Child Abuse Mandated Reporter Training (AB1207) 02/22/2020. LPA reminded Maria Sanchez that the training is to be completed every two years. Training is required for everyone working with children.

Supervision of children was discussed with Maria Sanchez and she understands that she must be present in the home during day care hours and ensure that the children are supervised at all times. Maria Sanchez understands her capacity options and she understands that she cannot have more than 14 children in the home at any time.
Maria states that she does transport children. Car safety seat law was discussed.
No child in care is being provided Incidental Medical Services (IMS).

LPA discussed Lead Safety Information (AB 2370). Chapter 676, statues of 2018, requires all child care providers, upon enrolling or re-enrolling any child, to provide the parent or guardian with written information.

Safe Sleep was discussed: place infants on their backs when sleeping, use a firm sleep surface such as a mattress in a safety approved crib, keep soft bedding such as blankets, pillows, toys out baby's sleep area and ensure that pacifiers have nothing attached to them.
LPA discussed with Licensee the violations that would result in an immediate assessment of civil penalty in the amount of $500. Licensee is encouraged to visit the Department’s website at www.cdss.ca.gov to access resources for Providers, Title 22 Regulations, Online option to pay Annual License fee, etc.
