25 | Licensing Program Analyst's (LPA's) Mel Matos and Kassandra Medrano met with Britta Laboyteaux, Director, for an unannounced case management inspection. The Facility is currently licensed in Portable 27 for 30 school age children. Purpose of today's inspection: Facility has requested to change the room of use to Portable 26 as well as requesting a change in capacity from 30 to 50 school age children. The Facility operates a year round program and is open from: 9 AM- 6 PM during school breaks and 12:30 PM to 6 PM during the calendar school year for Santa Cruz City Schools District. An approved fire clearance was received prior to today's inspection from the Santa Cruz Fire Department, on July 26, 2022. Since the program operates at a functioning elementary school site, the facility is exempt from the indoor and outdoor square footage requirements, fencing requirements, and toilet/sink ratios and isolation area requirements. The Facility is located on the campus of Branciforte Small Schools: Monarch Elementary School.
LPA's toured Portable 26 and outdoor space and note that the Portable and outdoor space is safe and in compliance with the Tile 22 Regulations. The Facility only provides PM snacks only for the school age children during the calendar school year. Parents provide lunches and the facility provides AM and PM snacks during full day program. There is a food preparation area within Room 26 with Hot/Cold running water, refrigerator, toaster oven, dishwasher, and microwave. Disposables dishes and utensils are used to serve snacks to the school age children. The Facility has trash cans with tight fitting lids throughout the Facility.
The program will utilize the elementary school playground areas, which they have exclusive use of after 3PM and all day during school breaks. Outdoor spaces have age appropriate climbing structures with sufficient resilient materials. Shade is provided by trees and building outdoor patio. Drinking water is provided via a combination of water fountains and water dispensers both indoors/outdoors. There is adequate equipment and supplies for children outdoors. LPA's did not observe any bodies of water during today's inspection.
Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the director, Britta Laboyteaux. No deficiencies issued during today's inspection. LPA's advised Britta that Portable 26 has been approved for use effective today, September 14, 2022. An updated license will be sent to the Facility within 1-2 weeks.
