32 | Other interviews revealed if there is one staff member in the classroom and they need additional support they will call for help using the phone in the classroom, but there were a few times staff popped their head out of the classroom and asked for support by talking to the front desk from the door of the classroom. Other interviews revealed, staff had seen children stand around the door but never open the emergency exit. Another interview revealed there was a child who did know how to open the emergency door and was teaching other children how to open the door. There was one occasion where the child open the door and the alarm did sound, but staff do not remember seeing any children walk outside the classroom. When children got close to the emergency door, staff would call the children’s name over and the children would step back from the door. This only happened a few times and usually while the staff was attending to other children. Some guardians’ interviews revealed they have not had any issues with staff supervision of children. One guardian reported they were told their child had exited the classroom when another guardian arrived to pick up their child and opened the class door, but a staff brought the child back into the classroom, it only happened once and the child did not exit the center only the classroom. Another guardian reported they were notified by the center that children were attempting to open the door.
Based on interviews conducted and records reviewed, although the allegation may have happened or is valid, there is not a preponderance of evidence to prove that the alleged violation occurred, therefore the allegation is Unsubstantiated.
