25 | An annual required inspection was made to the facility by Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Amy Strother. LPA met with Licensee, Carolyn Simons. The License was previously inactive and will be returning to active status as of today, 11/28/22. Since the last inspection, co-licensee Richard Simons has been approved to be added to the license. A review of staff records indicates that all facility staff or other individuals who require caregiver background checks have received criminal record and child abuse index clearances or exemptions. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.
During the inspection the home was toured inside and outside. The licensee had one child in care during today’s visit. The facility’s operating hours are Monday - Friday 7:00am –5:30pm. The floor plan submitted by the licensee was reviewed and verified. The off-limit areas of the home are the garage and back yard, made inaccessible by locked doors. The home was clean and orderly, and was at a comfortable indoor temperature. There were safe toys and equipment available for children. There is a working telephone in the home. Both licensee’s pediatric CPR and First Aid certifications were reviewed and expire on 10/2024. LPA verified current mandated reporter training certificates, which expire 10/2024. Items which could pose a danger to children (such as detergents, cleaning compounds, medications, etc.) were observed to be stored out of the reach of children. Licensee stated any poisons on the premises are locked in a combination locked cabinet in the garage. The fireplace has been made inaccessible with a glass door. Licensee stated the fireplace is never used. LPA observed a working smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector and fire extinguisher, rated at least 2A10BC, in the home. The roster is to remain current at all times. Licensees will update roster to include returning or newly enrolled children. Emergency drills must be conducted at least once every six months and the date documented. Licensee will conduct a drill within the first 6 months of resuming care of children. Licensee stated that firearms and ammunition are stored separately as required.
