25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Aurelio Mendoza conducted an unannounced Annual/Random Inspection and was met by Licensee Maria Gonzales. Also present in the home was the licensee’s assistant. The licensee stated that her days and hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
LPA toured the home inside and outside, and a census of children in care was taken. LPA reviewed the facility sketch and confirmed that the living room, family room, game room (day care room), dining room, kitchen, hallway bathroom, and backyard are used to provide care and are accessible to children.
At the request of the licensee, the front yard and front patio were inspected during today’s visit. These areas were assessed and found to meet Title 22 requirements and are approved for use effective immediately. LPA discussed supervision practices including active scanning and zoning, and reminded the licensee that children must be supervised at all times, especially given the proximity of the front yard to the street located directly in front of the family child care home.
All other rooms are off-limits and made inaccessible by the use of doorknob spinners and keeping doors locked to ensure children cannot enter restricted areas.
There is no swimming pool or other bodies of water on the premises. All firearms and ammunition are stored and locked separately. All poisons are stored in a locked area, and no poisons were observed during the inspection. Detergents, cleaning compounds, medications, and other hazardous items are stored to ensure they are inaccessible to children.
There is one fireplace located in the family room. It is made inaccessible by a metal door secured with zip ties and will not be used during daycare hours. The home contains a working fire extinguisher, smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector, and adequate heating and ventilation for safety and comfort.
