On the allegation “Staff make inappropriate comments towards residents”; it is the concern of the Reporting Party (RP) that Staff 1 (S1) made an inappropriate comment to Resident 2 (R2). The date of the incident was not provided. It was also reported that staff verbally abuse the residents by saying things like, “Eat this.” An interview with R2 revealed that S1 stated, “What's your problem now?” when R2 went to talk to them about an incident. S1 no longer works at the facility and could not be interviewed. However, an interview with the previous Executive Director, Kailey Vanderwall, revealed that S1 had denied making that comment. All other residents and witnesses interviewed denied hearing staff make inappropriate comments to residents. Residents interviewed revealed that staff are nice to the residents and they have not seen or heard anyone disrespect the residents. Furthermore, interviews were conducted with seven staff members, consisting of Med Techs and Caregivers. While all staff denied making inappropriate comments themselves, two provided additional statements regarding resident interactions. One staff member stated they previously witnessed staff being rude to R2 and reported it to the Memory Care Director, who is no longer employed at the facility. A second staff member noted that they heard staff being rude to residents when they first started working at the facility three years ago, but clarified that those individuals are no longer employed there, and no further rude comments have been heard from the time the complaint was submitted last year up to the present. The remaining five staff members denied ever hearing staff make inappropriate comments to residents. Although the allegation may have happened or is valid, based on interviews, the department does not have sufficient evidence to prove the alleged violation did or did not occur; therefore the allegation, “Staff make inappropriate comments towards residents” is UNSUBSTANTIATED at this time.

Exit interview conducted. Today's report was reviewed and emailed to the Executive Director.
