32 | The CCC has adequate restrooms and handwashing facilities for children in care. The restrooms for the use of children were observed by LPA in safe, sanitary, and operating condition. LPA notes snacks but not lunches are provided for children in care, and LPA observed a snack menu posted prominently. LPA observed two (2) refrigerators which Facility Representative advised LPA are being used to store children’s lunches. Facility Representative informed LPA that filtered drinking water is available for consumption by preschoolers in care, by way of Brita-brand filtered water pitchers and disposable paper cups. Facility Owner/Administrator informed LPA that 5-gallon jugs of filtered drinking water are routinely shipped to the CCC as-needed.
LPA notes the CCC outdoor play area is fully enclosed, and is subdivided into two sections, the smaller of the two being used for infants under a separate license (facility #566211104) and the larger of the two being used for preschoolers. LPA observed the entry/exit points to be secured. The footing in the outdoor play area is comprised of artificial turf. LPA observed age-appropriate toys & play equipment in the outdoor play area. The play equipment is free of sharp, loose or pointed objects. LPA reminded Facility Representative that outdoor play equipment and furnishings should be replaced when such items begin to degrade or are no longer in good repair. No bodies of water were observed on site.
LPA reviewed a sampling of children’s records, and found them to be current & complete. LPA reviewed a sampling of staff records for staff members present during the inspection, which were found current & complete as well. The CCC maintains a current facility roster listing children in care. No firearms or ammunition are stored on site.
Facility representative was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.
Assembly Bill (AB) 2370, Chapter 676, Statutes of 2018, requires all licensed Child Care Centers (CCCs) constructed before January 1, 2010, to test their water (used for drinking and food preparation) for lead contamination before January 1, 2023, and then every 5-years after the date of the first test as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1597.16.
