32 | LPA toured the infant classroom which is marked as room 5. The room did not have clutter and was vacuumed and clean and was sectioned with gates and tables. There was a second room adjacent with cribs and a rocking chair. The cribs had fitted sheets and no blankets or toys were in the cribs. There was a bookshelf along a back wall which had infant toys, books, small fabric storage cubes and other items stored neatly and orderly. LPA observed doors to classroom and observed aluminum screen doors on both outside doors to classroom #5. As a staff person who was holding a child was exiting the classroom, LPA witnessed the aluminum screen door did close with an audible bang slightly louder than a normal closing door. The screen closed into the frame of the door. The screens of the doors are ripped by the side with the handle. While the doors are not heavy, they do have a spring hinge at the top which will have the screen door self-close when someone enters or exits and if not guided, will slam shut. LPA also observed staff holding the screen door when entering or exiting with children when escorting the children to other areas. LPA observed staff to infant ratio was maintained. LPA observed staff talking to infants, comforting them, and providing guidance and engagement with infants during inspection.
During the course of this investigation, LPA made observations, reviewed records and conducted interviews. Based upon LPA Baptista’s observations and information gathered through interviews, the preponderance of evidence standard has been met, therefore the above allegation is found to be SUBSTANTIATED.
